Games at marriage ceremonies have become a thing now.
Barely a weekend passes without some fun activities being played during weddings in Ghana.
Hilarious as it may sound, it takes a witty, intelligent and engaging personality to weave this mechanism through such a significant rite of passage.
This is where MC Okokobioko’s skills come to play. He is an avid Master of Ceremony using this wave to make functions memorable.
Nana Osei Bonsu, as he is known outside showbiz circles, seems to have cracked a code a very few people have by making social media crave for his occasional content from each gig.
A tour of his accounts shows over 554,000 followers on TikTok with some videos gaining as much as 27 million views.
Some of them include a blindfolded bride deciphering her groom by feeling her way heavy-bearded men which sparked thunderous laughter at the reception.
This, coupled with his 320,000 Facebook fans and another 136,000 on Instagram boosts the reach of each couples’ sacred day to the new virtual audience.
The Nigerian-born Ghanaian’s online platforms have essentially become a place for weddings he superintends to go viral.
His consistency and online presence through the artform have also influenced his colleagues to inculcate a dash of fun activities during their duties at such functions.
MC Okokobioko was born to a Ghanaian father and a Nigerian mother, which gives him an over his peers in commanding a diverse crowd at such functions.
Though he has amassed these numbers, he does not take them for granted.
The mathematician-turned-comedian is reported to have said in an interview how much of an influence his parent’s jovial nature and mixed roots shaped him.
“My dad is funny, my mum is funny. My mum is from Warri so I think it runs in the blood,” he said.
