Vlisco Ghana organises workshop to equip designers in fashion industry
Vlisco Ghana has organised an entrepreneurship workshop to equip young Ghanaian designers with skills and tools to help them thrive in the fashion industry.
Managing Director of Vlisco Ghana, Fatoumata Doro indicated that Vlisco looks at contributing to achieving a bigger dream of a developed continent by supporting entrepreneurs.
The maiden workshop, she said, is a step to accessing the Vlisco Fashion Fund worth 5000 Euros and a trip to the Netherlands.
“The aim of this Vlisco Fashion Fund is to ensure that we train and empower African designers. We train them and make sure they return upgraded. We also want to expose them beyond them being just a fashion designer in Africa but accessible to the world”.
Ms. Doro emphasized that Vlisco is a quality and luxury brand—aimed at inspiring people across the world.
“As a brand that inspires people, we are encouraged to do something bigger, hence we have picked some Sustainable Development Goals. We want to help achieve. We don’t want to be a brand that will just be here to do business but we want to be part of the growth of the continent,” she stated.
Beneficiary of the Vlisco Fashion Fund 2017, and Brand Ambassador for Vlisco, Belinda Ofori expressed her gratitude to Vlisco for upscaling her brand, Turquoise haute couture.
“Vlisco was the platform that shot me to where I am now and defined the designer I am now. They helped me financially, trained me on building lasting relationships with clients, they taught me how to make exquisite designs and how to market my craft,” she said.
Meanwhile, beneficiary of Vlisco Fashion Fund 2018, Jeremiah Mensah urged the participants to be innovative.
“I will tell them to be serious with the competition. They should practice whatever they are learning and must be original. Vlisco looks out for originality but aside that, for any business to survive, it has to be unique,” he said.
