‘I’ll take you to Enchi’ comment by Sekondi-Takoradi MCE ignites abuse of political power discussion
The Municipal Chief Executive for Sekondi-Takoradi, Abdul Mumin Issah, has been on Twitter’s trending list since it was reported that he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer and driving dangerously.
The conversation that ensued between Abdul Mumin Issah and the police officer, which was recorded, has been circulating on the social media platform.
The MCE can be heard using unprintable words against the police officer in question. But what appears to have grabbed the attention of Ghanaians who have analysed the dialogue is the statement “I’ll send you to Enchi.”
During the conversation, the Sekondi-Takoradi MCE said to the Police Officer: “Patrol team, coming to take me? You don’t know who you are dealing with. You will come begging tomorrow. I’ll send you to Enchi.”
In response, the officer said: “It is a place. Police are working there. Transfer is not punishment in Police. You can transfer me to Bawlugu. My colleagues are there working happily.”
“What are you telling my colleagues at Enchi. They are human beings. Same people who voted for you are working there,” he added.
Reacting to the comments made, social media users say the MCE’s action confirms the abuse of power by those in authority as claimed by many who have gone up against state officials.
They averred that whenever a government official is brought to book over a matter, the complainants are those, in most cases, who bear the brunt instead of the alleged perpetrator.
Bro the case is dead on arrival and trust me the police officer will be surely transferred to Enchi https://t.co/ioNO5NVnOi

Due to this supposed trend, some Ghanaians are pessimistic that Mr Mumin Issah will be punished for his actions although the matter is before the court.
In Ghana if you do the right thing or challenge the system they send you to far away from the city to end side… #enchi

They added that the officer in question will be transferred to Enchi as indicated by the MCE for going against a government official.
Enchi is the capital of Aowin-Suaman District in the Western Region. The town is noted for Cocoa farming.
The leaders will violate the statutes. You talk p3, they will transfer you to a location that will get you muted.
Not surprise with this “ I will take you to Enchi”…

The Sekondi-Takoradi MCE has been charged with assault on a public officer, offensive conduct and disturbing the peace of a public place.
He has also been charged with careless and inconsiderate driving and causing danger to road users.
But appearing before the Takoradi Circuit Court ‘A’ on Friday, Abdul Mumin Issah pleaded not guilty to the charges.
At the end of today’s proceeding, he was granted a GH¢100,000 self-recognisance bail with three sureties. The case was adjourned to March 17, 2022.
