We must give counsel to people in authority – religious leader told
Religious leaders in Ghana have been implored to counsel and hold people in authority accountable.
Moderator of the General Assembly for the Evangelical Presbyterian Church- Ghana says religious readers should not shy away from voicing displeasure against government’s actions or inactions when the need be.
According to Rev. Bliss Agbeko, it is the responsibility of the religious community to provide representation on behalf of its members.
Rev. Bliss D.K Agbeko was speaking at the 75th anniversary and thanksgiving service of the E.P.C.G Divine Grace parish church in Kumasi.
“We should advocate for the voiceless, for the oppressed. We should speak when we have. We [religious leaders] don’t see things and keep quiet. If we do quiet it means we are not the watchmen of God.
“We are watch men so when we see something going wrong we must speak to it, advise the government, and give counsel to people in authority. I also will encourage ministers of God to speak the truth at all a time whether in plenty or in scarcity,” he advised.
The program themed “Ebenezer, this is how far the lord has brought us”, assembled pioneers of the church.
The ceremony launched fundraising to elevate a 2,000 seater capacity church facility to raise the image of the church and cater for the growing membership of the church.
Speaking on the theme, Richard Dzoagbe, branch pastor for the Amakom Divine Grace Parish stated that the lack of capacity almost crippled the church.
He is however grateful for the steadfastness over the years.
“Some people left and even tried to form their own church. But for the church to withstand this and prevail, then, we have come far. Just as we have seen the project going on, in the next 10 years we are expecting to be able to accommodate a lot of people,” he said.
Chairman of the Fundraising Planning Committee, E.G.S. Azumah added, “We are over 400 members at this parish, and we hope that in future we get more. Indeed this is a big opportunity for us to expand our reach.
We are targeting GH500,000 fundraising which is supposed to fund an expansion of the chapel to make it bigger for more people”.
