Kwabeng Anglican SHTS launches 40th-anniversary celebration
Kwabeng Anglican Senior High Technical School (KASTS), has launched its 40th anniversary celebration at Kwabeng in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region.
The launch was under the theme: “40 years of quality science and technical education at KASTS, strengthening stakeholder roles.”
The school seeks to commit to academic excellence by focusing on advancing science and technical education.
The headmistress of the school, Elfreda Cecilia Adu Poku in her address gave a brief history of how the school established in 1983 by the Anglican Diocese of Koforidua transitioned into a public Secondary School in 1994.
According to her, from its modest start with 17 students, KASTS has grown to accommodate over 1,500 students presently.
“Despite offering science courses, the school has no science laboratory, and therefore operates in a makeshift science laboratory in a classroom” she lamented.
She thus appealed for the construction of a modern science laboratory to enhance science education.
She also called for the provision of an administration block and a health facility (Sick Bay) to serve the health needs of students.
To help the school achieve more laurels, she encouraged all past students across the globe to support the school and participate in the activities to mark the anniversary celebration.
The Chief of Akyem-Muoso, Barima Dr Owusu Beyeeman, who chaired the occasion was touched by the school’s request for a sick bay.
He, therefore, pledged to personally fund the construction of the facility for the school, which is expected to begin in February next year.
Dr Owusu Beyeeman, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Ready Oil Limited said despite the challenges, he is impressed by the academic performance of the school.
He made a personal donation of GH¢5,000 towards the celebration of the anniversary.
The Atiwa West District Chief Executive, Seth Asante mentioned the government’s contributions to infrastructure expansion in the school and assured of swift action to address the school’s needs.
He called for collaboration with NGOs, alumni, parents and organizations to complement government efforts, particularly in the implementation of the Free Senior High School Policy.
