Solving Unemployment: Graduates advised to study Ghana’s economic dynamics to explore opportunities
Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Seth Twum-Akwaboah, is entreating young graduates seeking employment to familiarize themselves with the complexities of the Ghanaian economy.
Despite the struggling economy and the high unemployment rate, he maintains the youth can find opportunities through adequate training and knowledge acquisition.
He says harnessing business opportunities requires a combination of economic knowledge, market awareness, and entrepreneurial skills.
In a challenging economy, the effects on new graduates in finding decent and sustainable employment opportunities can be profound.
The economic situation and the rising number of job seekers have heightened competition for limited job openings and increased financial burdens on young individuals aspiring to fit into the workforce.
Considering the urgent need for economic freedom, the Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Ghana Industries, Seth Twum-Akwaboah is imploring the youth to seek expert guidance and mentorship in the business community.
“Ghana has its own economy with the dynamics, the youth have to study the economy and appreciate what the dynamics are to take advantage of its opportunities.
“Despite the challenges, get mentorship, learn from those who have been successful, explore opportunities, talk to institutions that provide support and you’ll be able to do something,” he said.
Seth Twum-Akwaboah was speaking on the theme, “How can the university graduate succeed in a challenged economy” at the 15th congregation of the Ghana Baptist University in Kumasi.
“The government has to equip and develop the right framework for the schools to develop well. Students should not only pick academic skills but also relevant and practical skills. Industry associations must train those who enter job space,” he added.
The congregation saw the graduation of 401 students from various academic and professional programmes including diploma, bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
President of the Ghana Baptist University College, Prof Joshua Oteng-Agyei encouraged the graduates to live by the principles inculcated in them by the school.
“The outside world is filled with predators but, you attended a university with a strong background of morality. You must remember to put on the character of God,” he said.
Ghana Baptist University’s population stands at one thousand, two hundred and three.
