We are running a democracy, not family dynasty; sack Ofori-Atta – Subin MP tells Akufo-Addo

The Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Antwi has reiterated calls for the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to be sacked.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Tuesday, he said the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) is running a “democracy and not family dynasty” hence calls for Ofori-Atta’s head should be heeded by President Akufo-Addo.

The Finance Minister is said to have a maternal relationship with President Akufo-Addo, making them cousins.

According to the MP, the future of the party is at stake with Mr Ofori-Atta and the Minister of State in charge of Finance at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen in office.

“I do not think it is too much to ask the President to ask two people to step aside from his government,” he added.

Earlier, some NPP parliamentarians demanded that Mr Ofori-Atta be sacked as Finance Minister.

The MPs, numbering about 80, held a press conference on Tuesday to impress on the President to relieve his cousin of the responsibility of managing the national purse or risk losing their support for government business going forward.

In a related development, the Members of Parliament of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the other hand have filed a motion of censure against the Minister.

Meanwhile, JoyNews sources understand that the President is set to meet the Majority MPs who are asking for the removal of the Finance Minister on Tuesday evening.
