I want to leave Ghana because of E-levy; I’m tired – Phaize
Ghanaian musician Phaize says he is ready to leave the country because of the current hardship in the country coupled with the recent introduction of the E-levy.
In an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz 103.9 FM, the Kumasi based singer mentioned that times are hard hence he need to find an alternative way of survival.
He said that he has plans to move to countries like Canada, United States of America, or United Kingdom.
“The E-levy is a big deal for Ghanaians. Things are hard and that is one of the few reasons I want to leave the country,” said the Jah Jehova singer.
During the interview, Phaize pulled out a ‘Ghana must go’ bag which had basic items like a towel, toothbrush, perfume and hairbrush, showing how serious he is about leaving the country to seek greener pastures.
“I am leaving the country. I have my towel, toothbrush, perfume and everything. I’m tired and I want to leave,” he said
On Tuesday March 29, 2022, parliament approved the controversial Electronic Transactions (E-Levy) Bill.
This decision was reached after the Consideration Stage was completed by a Majority-sided House on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.
It was considered under a certificate of urgency.
The Bill was adopted at a reduced rate of 1.5% from the initial 1.75% amid a Minority walkout.
This new development was received by a faction of Ghanaian with mixed reactions including Phaize who released a song titled Metu Afiri Ghana. The song projects the grievance of Ghanaians and raises their concerns about how hard the economy has become.
