Dormaa East MP petitions NPP’s national chairman to ensure calm in the party
The Member of Parliament for Dormaa East Constituency, Paul Apreku Twum Barimah, has petitioned the National Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Stephen Ntim, to ensure that calm is maintained, before, during and after the party’s final internal elections in November.
A petition signed by the Member of Parliament and addressed to the National Chairman of the NPP indicates that peace and harmony are crucial for the party ahead of the 2024 general elections considering the prevailing circumstances in the party.
“In recent times, tensions have heightened within the party. Therefore, it is essential that we approach this crucial period with unity, empathy, and a shared sense of purpose”, the MP said, adding, “Together, we can ensure a peaceful and inclusive electoral process that strengthens the rank and file of our party”.
The petition reminded loyalists of the party, including aspirants and their supporters, to refrain from conducts such as hate speech, misinformation or incitement of violence, that could undermine the electoral process and ultimately the unity enjoyed in the party.
“Our main aim as a political party is to retain political power and therefore, unity, dedication, and commitment are crucial.”
The Dormaa East MP, Paul Apreku Twum Barimah, is confident they can break the 8 when they stand together and achieve great things in building a formidable party for Ghana as a whole.
Some faithful of the NPP feel any cause of disaffection among the rank and file could affect the fortunes of the party in the general elections, hence the need for aspirants, supporters and delegates to conduct themselves in a manner that would be attractive to the electorate.
On November 4, over 200,000 NPP delegates will cast their ballots to elect a presidential candidate for the 2024 election.
The four persons vying for the presidential slot are the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh, and former Agric Minister, Dr Owusu Akoto Afriyie.
The winner of the primaries will then face off against the presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, in the December 2024 general election.
