WPL Northern Zone Week 1 Wrap: Ampem Darkoa Ladies suffer defeat, Savannah go top

Ampem Darkoa Ladies suffered a surprising defeat to Pearlpia Ladies in the opening round of Northern Zone’s 2021/22 Women’s Premier League season.

Anathesia Achiaa’s sixth minute own goal was enough to give Pearlpia Ladies all three points against the Nana Mma lads on Monday.

Faustina Tiwaa’s late strike in the second half proved the difference maker for Supreme Ladies, who earned maximum points against Ash-Town Ladies in their first game.

Kumasi Sports Academy were unfortunate not to take away at least a point from their game, when Joyce Larbi scored a 90th minute equalizer following Ernestina Mesnah’s strike to give Fabolous Ladies the lead. But Millicent Bondah’s injury-time strike sealed the needed win for the home side.

After a good build up to the season, Prisons Ladies were beating convincingly by FC Savannah, who won with a 5-2 scoreline at home.

Asana Ibrahim and Karima Abdul both scored a brace for Savannah while Helena Obeng was among the goals for Prisons.

Friday’s fixture saw Dreamz Ladies come from behind to beat Northern Ladies with a 2-1 scoreline at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.
