11-year-old Neriah Dadzie wins 2023 Junior Speller competition

In a thrilling culmination of linguistic prowess, 11-year-old Neriah Dadzie of Christ Heritage School emerged victorious in the 2023 Junior Speller Competition for basics 5-9. The competition, which began with over 3000 spellers, narrowed down to 50 finalists after intense school contests, quarter-finals, and semi-final competitions.

Neriah secured her championship by flawlessly spelling the championship word “Pneumonectomy,” leaving the audience in awe. The event, graced by parents, educators, and supporters, witnessed an emotional rollercoaster as contestants battled through words in pursuit of the coveted title.

The winners were celebrated with Neriah Dadzie taking home the championship title. Marie Ashagbley of Basic Skills Montessori secured the second position, and Michelle Twum, also from Basic Skills Montessori, claimed the third spot. Neriah was awarded a GHC5,000.00 cash prize and products worth GHC5,000.00. The runners-up received GHC3,000 and GHC2,000, respectively, along with valuable products from the generous sponsors.

Born Heroes Foundation, the organizer of the event, awarded a citation to the previous year’s winner for basics 5-9, Nana Marfo Akuoko Manuel. The citation was presented by Ms. Barbara Incoom, Marketing Director of Flora Tissues and Top Choco.

A special accolade was given to Dulcie Cudjoe of Oasis International School, recognized as the star performer for the basics 5-9 contest. Dulcie received a citation and a decoder with a one-year subscription from HDPlus, adding an extra layer of recognition to her exceptional achievement.

The ceremony concluded with a standing ovation for Neriah Dadzie, who stood triumphantly as the audience erupted in cheers and applause. While tears were shed by those who didn’t make it to the top, the spirit of competition and camaraderie lingered in the air, fostering a memorable and inspiring event for all.
