Black Stars: Chris Hughton restores Andre Ayew to starting XI as ex-Newcastle boss hands debut to former Inter Allies defender Patrick Kpozo in starting XI to face Madagascar

Ghana coach Chris Hughton has handed a starting berth to FC Sheriff Tiraspol defender Patrick Kpozo as the Black Stars take on Madagascar in a 2024 AFCON qualifier at the Mahamasina Municipal Stadium.

The 25-year-old, who operates as a left-back, gets to start his first game for the West Africans who need just a point to secure their place in the qualifiers.

Hughton has also restored captain Andre Ayew to the starting XI after he missed the double-header against Angola in March.

Genk attacker Joseph Paintsil also gets the opportunity to start in attack while Celta de Vigo central defender Joseph Aidoo partners Daniel Amartey in central defence.

Below is Ghana’s starting XI

Lawrence Ati-Zigi – Denis Odoi, Patrick Kpozo, Daniel Amartey, Joseph Aidoo – Thomas Partey, Salis Abdul Samed – Jordan Ayew, Joseph Paintsil, Kamaldeen Sulemana, & Andre Ayew.
