Accra 2023: University of Ghana set to restructure academic calendar to ensure smooth running of 13th African Games [GTV Sports+ Sunday Night Live]

The Executive Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the 13th African Games, Accra 2023, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, has revealed high-level discussions with the hierarchy of the University of Ghana to restructure their academy calendar ahead of the continental games.

The 2023 Games will be the second time in history that the games will be decentralized in a process that started in the previous edition held in Morocco, as a result, the University of Ghana Stadium.

Works are currently underway at the University of Ghana facility to get it ready ahead of the games which are expected to be held at three different locations within Accra.

“We’ve had several meetings with the current Vice-Chancellor and she’s been very helpful. We started with the previous Vice-Chancellor and so what we have agreed on is that they will structure their academic calendar in such a way that it will not affect the games. And, we have made them aware. Originally we were looking at August and September but now we have zeroed in on August because the World Athletics games have programmes in September and October. So we have made the university aware. They are very accommodating. So in the 2022/23 academic calendar, they will factor the games into consideration,” he told Karl Tuffour on the Sunday Night Live Show on GTV Sports+ on Sunday.

The LOC together with the Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Mustapha Ussif inaugurated 7 sub-committees on Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium. The 7 sub-committees include; The Media and Communication, Legacy, Legal, Marketing and Sponsorship, Technical, Medical and Anti-doping, and Finance and Ticketing.
