Agents should prioritise development of young players over money – Anthony Baffoe

Former Black Stars player, Anthony Baffoe, has called on football agents and managers to first consider the development of young players rather than prioritising money.

According to him, it is important to find stability for the young talents to continue their development before making a big step in their career.

In the last two years players such as Dominic Adiyiah, Ransford Osei, Mohammed Aminu, Emmanuel Toku and Eric Ayiah have all failed to live up to expectations after first excelling with Ghana’s you teams due to the decision to move to big clubs immediately.

Speaking about how young players can develop into good players, Baffoe suggested agents pay more attention to their development.

“That is why they [the players] need good mentoring. When we talk about something, we have experienced it before. I always say there is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs,” he said at the launch of the Baby Jet U-16 African Football Tournament earlier this week.

“They have to be well-managed. For an agent who starts new, who is only looking at the money and not at the development of the player, then there is a problem.

“His first mandate should be what is good at that very moment for this young player to establish himself… Managers, people who take care of them and mentors are very important for a young player to have success in life.”

The Baby Jet U-16 Football Tournament is aimed at unearthing talent for the country.
