AGRA supports National Farmers’ Day celebration with tractor and other equipment

The Best National Female Farmer at this year’s National Farmers’ Day event will walk home with a tractor and other accessories from AGRA, the organisation’s country director Dr Betty Annan has stated.

In a statement to mark National Farmers’ Day, Dr Annan said, “AGRA is supporting the National Farmers’ Day event with a Cabrio Standard Tractor with accessories, and Agritech Power Tiller with accessories, that will go to the Best National Female Farmer.”

“The Northern Regional Best Youth Farmer will also get a motorbike, knapsack sprayer, PPEs, wellington booths, and 2 cutlasses,” the statement added.

The theme for this year’s Farmers Day celebration is “Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience.”

Dr Annan says farmers need the necessary tools, inputs, support, skills, and technologies that can help transform agriculture from a solitary struggle to survive, into a thriving business that protects our planet for future generations.

“We believe in mechanisation and currently, with our focus, we are looking more into inclusivity. And that means we have to bring more women on board in the agricultural space, and also youth,” she said in an interview.

Dr. Annan said the equipment will help the female best farmer to become more efficient.

“It will help with the mechanisation of the farm. So at least, the female farmer can use it to plough the land. She can use it for basic planting and other things that require using machinery. And also to expedite the processes and reduce labour cost,” she said.

“What she will get farm hands to do that she would have to pay them for, she can use the tractor to do that and that will come at a reduced cost, and it is also more efficient when it comes to production,” Dr. Annan added.

She said the support for the regional best farmer is also aimed at encouraging more young people to venture into the agricultural space.
