2021 AFCON disaster: GFA President Kurt Okraku laughs off calls for him to resign [Asempa FM Ultimate Sports Show]

Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku has laughed off calls for him to resign from his position following the Black Stars’ disastrous campaign at the 2021 AFCON tournament.

Okraku, former President of Dreams FC, was voted into office as the President of the Ghana FA in October 2019 on a four-year mandate, which expires in October 2023.

A section of the Ghanaian football fans has taken to social media to call on the GFA President to resign from his position following Ghana’s abysmal showing in Cameroon which goes down in history as Ghana’s worst performance at the tournament since 1963.

“We are in a very serious enterprise. We should get serious. The call to resign is not even up for consideration. There are critical things we need to look at,” he told Benedict Kwadwo Mensah.

The Black Stars, four-time title-winners of the continental showpiece, endured their worst ever campaign at the AFCON since the West Africans debuted at the competition in 1963.

In a group featuring Morocco, Gabon, and debutantes Comoros, the Black Stars finished bottom of Group C with just a point from 3 games and a deficit goal aggregate of -2.

In the midst of the general disquiet among the football community in the country, the President of the football governing body of the West African nation, has admitted that it is difficult to answer why Ghana failed to the tournament.
