Medeama offered me more money and salary but I chose Kotoko – Michael Akuffo [Asempa FM SportsNite]

Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Michael Akuffo has that Ghana Premier League side Medeama offered him more money and salary in 2011 however he opted to join the Porcupine Warriors.

According to the retired midfielder on Asempa FM’s SportsNite show, he recalled that when he arrived at the office of a Kotoko bigwig he doubted whether he could play for club.

However, he went ahead to make over 100 appearances for the club in six seasons and scored many important goals for the record-winners of the Ghana Premier League.

Meanwhile, the former Fetteh Feyenoord academy graduate has confessed to Enoch Worlanyo that he would have received much more money in terms of salaries and bonuses but he opted to join Kotoko.

“I was a Kotoko fanatic and passionate about the club because I played for Young Kotoko in Tamale before moving to Feyenoord. The recognition I get today wouldn’t have been possible if I’d not played for Kotoko,” he said.

“After I scored that goal against Hearts of Oak, I came to appreciate how the Kotoko fraternity can express their love and appreciation. This made me feel good about my decision. Yes, it is true that I would have earned more money in terms of salaries and other stuff at Medeama but I made the choice to join Kotoko,” he revealed.

According to him, Medeama SC bankroller Moses Armah offered him a brand new Toyota RAV4 car and a whopping transfer sum to entice him to sign for the Tarkwa-based side in 2011.
