Demarcation of Ghana-Togo border to commence soon – Major General Kotia
Major General of the Ghana Boundary Commission, Emmanuel Kotia, says plans are underway for the demarcation of the various entry points also known as pillars in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.
The Major General disclosed this when he toured the border communities in Ketu South.
The demarcation under the auspices of the African Union Border programme, he said, will be a collaborative effort between Ghana and Togo Defence Authority.
He noted that both countries will jointly be on a technical committee working on the reconstruction of the pillar with the deadline of May.
“We do everything together and we cannot have a construction of a pillar without Togo’s consent because within one pillar the names of the two countries are written on it – making a good collaboration between the two countries,” he said.
The construction of the pillar, he said will see to the end of encroachment.
Also speaking to the media, Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu South, who doubles as MUSEC Chairman, Maxwell Lukudor, said the exercise by the Ghana Boundary Commission is a step in the right direction.
According to him, there have been issues of security threats due to the construction of buildings on no-man lands.
He, therefore, pledged the Assembly’s commitment to supporting the Commission.
“This exercise is very important to us because it will help solve the security issues due to the illegal structures on the no-man lands between the two countries and also help our security agencies work effectively,” Mr Lugudor said.
