Elijeko Foundation partners with Patient Safety Movement Foundation’s ‘Commit To Zero’ programme
A non-governmental organisation, Elijeko Foundation based in Kumasi, has joined a US-based Patient Safety Movement Foundation in making a public commitment to zero patient harm and death.
As part of the Foundation’s efforts to minimise medical errors which normally lead to death and injury of patients across the globe, it has stepped up to “Commit to Zero” through its community awareness programmes and interactions with medical professionals across Ghana.
Preventable medical error is ranked as a leading cause of death, and unsafe care contributes to the demise of over 3 million patients worldwide each year.
The Chief Executive Officer of Elijeko Foundation, Andrews Kwabena Nyantakyi, has stated that the Foundation will publicly share its continued commitment to zero patient harm and death and applauded the Patient Safety Movement Foundation for collecting and publicising every organisation across the world that is committed to this audacious and essential goal.
He added that the Foundation will continue with its community health and preventive education to ensure patients are knowledgeable on the right questions to ask about their care and strengthen its partnership with health care providers to discuss current and evidence-based practices to ensure a safe patient experience.
The CEO for Elijeko Foundation was optimistic that the partnership with the Patient Safety Movement Foundation will help eliminate preventable patient harm and death together.
Elijeko Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that operates in Sub-Saharan Africa and provides free preventive health education, health promotion, and community medical outreach.
The organisation employs a community-based approach to health education and works with volunteer health care providers to create a platform that draws attention to the need to focus on patient safety with the hope of eliminating preventable illnesses, harm, and death.
