Ghana Premier League: Richmond Lamptey’s strike breaks WAFA’s FOUR-year jinx over Kotoko. Check out the stats between the two sides

Asante Kotoko ended their FIVE-game winless run against WAFA by beating the Sogakope-based side 1-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Midfielder Richmond Lamptey resiliently finished off a move inside the box on the 58th-minute mark to hand all three points for the Porcupine Warriors who have now moved on points level with leaders King Faisal.

The victory in Kumasi has spelt a decisive end to the four-year supremacy of WAFA over the 23-time Ghanaian champions.

Since beating the Academy Lads 1-0 in March 2017, the Porcupine Warriors have not won a game against WAFA either in Kumasi or Sogakope or any other venue the two sides have played.

In that encounter at the same venue, winger Frank Sarfo Gyamfi came off the bench to score a 64th-minute winner for the Red army.

Ever since Kotoko had struggled to win against WAFA – out of the five games played between the two sides, WAFA had won 1 with the remaining four games ending in draws.
