Ewit Greenwich Classical Academy Alumni support Children Hospital 25th Anniversary

As part of their school’s 25th-anniversary celebrations, the class of 1998 from Ewit Greenwich Classical Academy made a generous cash donation to the Children’s Hospital in a short ceremony held in Accra.

The monetary support, intended to purchase essential items for children receiving treatment, will also address various basic needs of the young patients.

Dr. Margaret Nizer, the Head of Clinical Services at the Children’s Hospital, expressed gratitude for this benevolent act, emphasizing that the contribution would significantly benefit the less fortunate patients and help save lives at the hospital.

Dr. Nizer explained that although the hospital primarily caters to children, it also offers a range of full services for adults, including eye care, dental care, family planning services, and ear, nose, and throat (E&T) services.

She further clarified that inpatient and outpatient care at the hospital is exclusively for children aged 1 to 18 years, and the facility is accredited under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

“We have children with us, some of whom are in need and rely on the generosity of others to access quality healthcare,” Dr. Margaret Nizer stated.

While the hospital is NHIS accredited, not all services are covered, and some expenses must be borne by parents. Dr. Nizer expressed concern that in critical situations, some patients cannot afford the necessary care, and the intervention of hospital staff and compassionate individuals becomes essential.

She mentioned that there are still children whose parents struggle to cover the costs of treatment, and hospital staff are actively seeking funds to assist them, making this support incredibly timely.

At the school, the alumni group also made similar donations to the school management board to support administrative expenses. Additionally, two staff members of the school received cash assistance.

Furthermore, a financial arrangement was established with the school management board to acquire baby cots and toys for the school’s crèche department.

The anniversary cake was jointly cut by the alumni and school management members.

Addressing the gathering during the program, the president of the alumni group, Matilda Asamoah Bediako, highlighted the significance of giving back to the community, especially during the school’s 25th-anniversary celebration. She emphasized the group’s commitment to helping children who cannot afford healthcare, recognizing them as the future.

Mrs. Gladys Abbey, a Director of Ewit Greenwich Classical Academy, expressed gratitude to the alumni for their support and assured that the donation would be used wisely to benefit the school.

The school has a proud history of producing successful professionals, including notable alumni such as Mr. Gilbert Ankrah, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, who has excelled both locally and on the international stage.
