2021 AFCON: You can’t allow yourselves to have a bad day – Tony Baffoe fires warning to Thomas Partey and Black Stars old guns

Former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe has charged Arsenal star Thomas Partey and the rest of the old guns in the Black Stars team to show character as the four-time champions take on Gabon in the 2021 AFCON Group C clash on Friday evening.

The Black Stars are in the hunt for a victory to keep their title hopes alive after Ghana suffered a 1-0 loss to Morocco in the opening game of the tournament in Yaounde on Monday.

Ghana has not won the AFCON title since 1982 and expectations back home among Ghanaian fans have drastically reduced following the opening day loss.

Baffoe, who visited the Black Stars’ training grounds in the company of another ex-player Ibrahim Tanko, charged the senior players to deliver for the team on Friday.

“When you come out of the tunnel. They must feel you. No more smiles. No more joking. Comoros, Gabon. Gabon is going to fall tomorrow. Thomas Partey, Wakaso, Jordan, Andre, Baba, Jonathan Mensah, Amartey. Why am I mentioning you? I’m doing so because you are the people who have been on the team for a long. People like you, Thomas Partey – I’m telling you. You can’t allow yourselves to have a bad day. Same as you people. You can’t. It is not possible to have a bad day,” he told the players at the final training session.

Baffoe played at 1992 final when Ghana lost to cross-border rivals Ivory Coast in a marathon penalty shootout in Senegal.

He was capped 25 times by Ghana.
