GPL Week 9 Wrap: Hearts, Kotoko on the winning front as Medeama suffers defeat

Matchday nine of the Ghana Premier League saw a total of 18 goals scored with one game still to go, as Hearts of Oak won back-to-back games for the first time this season.

The Phobians proved too superior for Accra Lions to handle as the Rainbow club recorded a 2-0 win at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Kofi Kordzi and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh scored the goals for Samuel Boadu’s team.

After three winless games, Asante Kotoko bounced back to winning ways on Sunday at the Theatre of Dreams.

The Porcupine Warriors won 2-1 against Legon Cities with Frank Thierry Mbella scoring a brace while Rahman Abdul reduced the deficit.

The was no goal to separate both AshantiGold and Great Olympics, who played out a 0-0 draw at the Len Clay Stadium.

Aduana Stars also extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table following an emphatic 3-2 victory over Berekum Chelsea at home.

Emmanuel Gyamfi was twice on the scoresheet for the home side with Sam Adams also adding to his goal tally.

Ronald Frimpong and David Sandan Abagna’s goals were enough to seal all three points for Real Tamale United in their home fixture against Elmina Sharks.

Medeama were unfortunate not to get a point from their game against WAFA after a good show. But Emmanuel Agyemang had other ideas as he scored late in the game to give WAFA a needed win since matchday five.

Having taken a first half lead through Richard Amoah, Bibiani Gold Stars succumbed to a 2-1 defeat as Abass Ganiu and George Osei Amponsah scored in the second period of the game for Eleven Wonders.

Karela United were also held to a goalless draw at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park by Bechem United.

Sunday’s results mean Hearts of Oak now move out if the relegation zone after two wins in a row while Aduana extended the gap at the top of the league.
