Ex-Hearts midfielder Esme Mends talks about Slavko Matic [Ghana Sports Page]

Former Hearts of Oak midfielder Esme Mends has called for patience for Serbian trainer Slavko Matic who has come under pressure at the Rainbow club.

Matic, 46, has come under pressure from the club’s fans with the Phobians gradually falling out of the title race.

The former African champions succumbed to 2-0 defeat to table-toppers Aduana Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium on matchday 18.

Matic bashed fans of the Phobians during a post match interview after the 3-1 home win over Berekum Chelsea.

The results against Aduana Stars means the 2000 CAF Champions League winners have recorded just 3 wins out of their 10 home games this season with 5 draws and 2 losses.

Fans have not been happy with their recent streak of results and Mends has called for calm for the Serb.

“Since the departure of Samuel Boadu, we have done some recruitments and have also taken some players out. The players Samuel Boadu left behind, he wouldn’t meet the same crop of players if he returns today. The question is, would he be able to work with these players? He will go back and look for players who will fit in his system,” Mends told Ghana Sports Page.

“so I will call for patience for this Coach [Matic] because I believe he is a good coach and as supporters, let us give him time,” he added.

“I like this coach [Slavko Matic] and believe in him but we should have time for him as well,” he concluded.
