Match Report: Hearts of Oak crawl from behind to win first Ghana Premier League game in 164 days

Hearts of Oak ended their long winless run in the Ghana Premier League after crawling from behind to beat 10-man Bibiani Gold Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The 21-time league winners had spent 164 days since they last recorded a victory in the top-flight league and Prince Owusu complicated matters for the Rainbow club when he netted a stunner to bleak the path for new coach Slavko Matic.

Owusu, 24, beat Inkoom to a 1v1 situation around the edge of the area and spotting Richmond Ayi off his lines, he darted the ball into the yawning net for the opener.

The brilliant strike drew the best celebration out of coach Michael Osei who had promised a shocker for the Phobians.

Hearts pressed and created series of opportunities to get the equaliser and had a goal disallowed by center referee Emmanuel Tampuri.

Isaac Mensah, Salifu Ibrahim, Equatorial Guinean Glid Jeordon Otanga Mvouo and Benjamin York were all introduced in the second half after goalkeeper Joseph Baah was sent off around the hour mark.

The former Nkoranza Warriors and Techiman Eleven Wonders guardian reduced his side’s numbers in the game.

12 minutes after Matic shuffled his cards, the Phobians duly netted the equaliser as Gideon Asante’s pass found Isaac Mensah who directed a low volley past substitute goalkeeper Ernest Kussi.
