U-20 WWC: No chance of Ghana going past group stages – Head Coach

Head coach of Ghana’s U-20 team women’s football team, Ben Fokuo, has dismissed any chance of his girls making it out of their group at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica after losing their first two games.

The Black Princesses lost 3-0 to the USA in their opening game before succumbing to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Japan.

Yet, the team retains a slim chance of progressing to the next round, but only if they can beat The Netherlands by a six-goal margin in their last group game, and Japan beat the USA.

The complicated scenario is not one head coach, Ben Fokuo expects to play out, ruling out any chance of his team making it to the next round.

“It is unfortunate we lost our second group game which means for the 6th attempt, we won’t make it past the group stage,” Fokuo said.

“Our first half performance was better than the second half. We started the second half on a better note until we conceded the penalty which I think pushed the girls down a little bit.

“We conceded another penalty and it is unfortunate to concede through a penalty but I think we played better than our first game.
“We wanted to go at least to the quarter-finals but that didn’t happen. It is sad not to make it this time again so we will go back and work hard so that in the next edition, we will try our best to make it from the group stage.”

Ghana play their last group game against the Netherlands on Wednesday 17 August, 2022 at 11:00GMT.
