Later Day Saints holds youths empowerment conference

The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints during the weekend held the last session of its Accra  Ghana Stake Youth Conference at Tesano in Accra.

The programme which is organized twice every year, brought together over 980 participants who were taken through various topics.

It was under theme: “Fulfilling Our Covenants”, various speakers called on the youth to live a righteous life that glorifies God.

The conference is a major youth programme of the church, which is mostly targeted at nurturing the youth with the word of God.

It is was also used to prepare them in both spiritual and physical to enable them embark on missionary assignments in other countries.

In a presentation, the Stake Young Women President, Patricia Dede Bosompim, expressed how the Children and Youth Development programme can help young women and men worthy to keep sacred covenants in order to receive the ordinances of the temple.

She said the children and Youth Development programme was organized to strengthen rising generations to have stronger faith in Jesus Christ.

According to her, the programme, “helps the youth to cultivate the habit of setting goals and mastering the courage to achieve them.

Its also provides the youth the opportunity to embrace Gospel Learning, Service and Personal development that will help anchor them through the challenges in their life.

“We know that parents know the strength of their children’s interests and talents as well as opportunities for growth,” she said.

On his part the President of Accra Ghana Temple of the church, Mr. K. Boah expressed worry about how the world has become too materialistic and therefore everybody wants to be rich overnight.

He counseled the youth to look up to God for his guidance in everything they are doing.

“If you do something wrong today you’ll regret tomorrow and at that stage will be too late” Said Mr. Boah.

He said that kind of mentality should be changed and the solution according to him, is teaching the people with word of God which will enable them demonstrate that they’re children of God.

“Ghana is a Christian society alright but we have become so materialistic that we have thrown the Christian values to the wind and that is not good for us,” he noted.

The Accra Temple President advised the youth to sacrifice more since it is key to a successful life.

Elder Solomon Aliche who doubles as Stake President, advised the youth to keenly follow the principles of the Gospel that can make them self reliant, adding that they should allow the holy spirit to control them.

Elder Aliche highlighted the importance of repentance, that according to him, brings change and growth in man’s life.
