AFC Futsal Asian Cup: Staggering home support charges hosts Kuwait to quarter-final qualification

2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup hosts Kuwait have advanced to the quarter-finals of the competition despite drawing 2-2 with Iraq in the Group A clash on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the Saad Al Abdullah Hall, Kuwait City.

Abdulrahman Alwadi fired the hosts into a 2nd-minute lead as he blasted a ferocious left-footed effort past Zaher Hadi Mahdi in the Iraqi goalpost.

The strike sent the entire arena into wild jubilations as home fans chant with joy, ecstasy, and passion for the determined blue-cladded stars.

However, the lead and jubilation were cut 9 minutes later when star-man Salim Faisal Al Husaynat forced the ball home to put Iraq on level terms.

Kuwait created a series of decent scoring chances but forward Abdulrahman ALMOSABEHI was indecisive in the scoring zone as he missed a great chance.

Moments before the break, it was another goal for Salim Faisal. The impressive-looking forward darted the ball past the hosts guardian to register his brace on the night.

However, the joy and happy life at the hall was restored for the home fans when Abdulrahman ALMOSABEHI atoned for his first-period miss when he scored just a minute into the second period.

Kuwait should have added a goal more to claim victory but the forward lines weren’t clinical.

The host ended the game at a man’s disadvantage as No.11 Abdulaziz Albasam was sent off following his second bookable offence.

Kuwait will now come up against four-time runner-ups Uzbekistan who have maintained a 100 percent record in the competition so far.
