Mariano Barreto agrees to terminate Kotoko contract [Nhyira FM]

Portuguese trainer Mariano Barreto has agreed to terminate his contract with Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko, according to reports by Kumasi-based Nhyira FM.

Barreto, 64, fell out with the leadership of Kotoko getting to the closing stages of last season after he went public to pass denigrating comments about the club.

The India-born trainer in an interview with Nhyira FM gave conditions under which he will continue to work at Kotoko next season.

In early September, Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM revealed the Portuguese had agreed in principle not to return to Kotoko to see out the rest of his contract duration.

However, Kotoko’s management head Nana Yaw Amponsah had other ideas and has pushed for the termination of the coach’s contract.

Nhyira FM has reported that the former AEL Limassol and Ghana U23 head coach has agreed to terminate his contract with the club.

Meanwhile, Black Stars B assistant coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has been strongly linked with the vacant job at the club.

The former WAFA head coach is expected to work closely with assistant Abdullai Gazelle who has been retained at the club.
