Mfantseman Girls’ SHS emerge champions at 65th Independence Cowbell National Debate Competition

Mfantseman Girls’ Senior High School has been adjudged winners in this year’s Cowbell National Independence Anniversary Debate Competition held in Cape Coast.

The 2020 winners beat Serwaa Kesse Girls Senior High School from the Bono Region to annex the trophy.

The debate is purposed to keep students abreast of modern issues, both national and international levels.

It is also to offer the students the opportunity to shape their skills in public speaking and refine their manners in communication.

Speaking at the competition, Central Regional Director of Education, Martha Owusu-Agyeman, praised the girls for working hard to reach the finals.

She indicated, the all-girls final was a great joy to the Ministry of Education and urged other schools to do more to make appearances in the grand finale of the competition.

“I am excited because we have only girl schools at this grand finale. This is because when we talk of the National Mathematics and Science Quiz, no girl school has been able to reach the final and so it gives us great joy seeing a day like this,” he stressed.  

She urged the students to leverage on the research skills acquired in the course of their research for competition to improve upon their academic performance.

Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr. Kwabena Bempah Tandoh commended the girls for the brilliant display of intellect during the debate. He was confident the performances exuded by the students bodes well for the future of the country.

He stated: “We have had the opportunity of being thrilled with some intellectual performances from the two schools. And that gives us hope in terms of the future and what the future holds for the country.”

He was thankful for the partnership with Cowbell. “We pray and hope that our partnership with cowbell grows, as we journey together to develop our human resources,
“ he added.

Brands Manager of Cowbell, Joseph Ashong, assured, the partnership between the Ghana Education Service and Cowbell is developing many talents and the brand was excited at the prospects.

The winners, the runners up, the teachers and the schools were given cash, laptops, pads, cowbell products and other exciting gifts from Cowbell.

The competition was adjudicated by three lecturers from the Department of English and the Department of Communication at the University of Cape Coast.
