NDC mourns former First Lady, Theresa Kufuor

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed profound sorrow at the passing of former First Lady Theresa Kufuor.

The party has extended heartfelt condolences to her family, particularly the children and husband, former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

The NDC fondly recalled Mrs Theresa Kufuor’s dedicated service to the nation as the First Lady during her husband’s presidency from 2001 to 2009.

In a statement signed by the General Secretary, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC offered its deepest sympathies to the Kufuor family and the New Patriotic Party at large, recognising the magnitude of their grief.

“We pray that God will comfort the family during these challenging times. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this period of grief,” the statement added.

Mrs. Kufuor peacefully passed away at her home on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at age 88.

She served as Ghana’s First Lady from January 7, 2001, to January 6, 2009, coinciding with her husband’s presidency, succeeding Jerry John Rawlings.

Throughout her tenure as First Lady, she established the Mother to Child Community Development Foundation, a noble initiative aimed at fostering the healthy development of children and preventing the transmission of diseases from mothers to their offspring.

Theresa and John Kufuor’s remarkable journey began when they crossed paths at a Republic Day Anniversary Dance in London in 1961, leading to their union in 1962. They were blessed with five children.
