Paramount Chief of Jama Traditional Area extends market days at Jama Moonyoa Market to boost trade

The Chief and elders of Jama Traditional Area in the Bole District of the Savannah Region have set three new Market days with the aim of ensuring consistency and continuity of business activities at the Jama Moonyoa Market to benefit all stakeholders.

The Paramount Chief of the area, Nnaa Professor Lanjagor Karley II, in an interview with Myjoyonline, explained that, since its inception several years ago, the Jama Moonyoa Market has grown to become the source of livelihood for many residents in the locality through the region, hence the need for a review to boost trade.

“I held series of stakeholder meetings and it has been decided and agreed that the most helpful intervention is for the market days to start on Thursdays through to Saturdays.”

He further stated that the agreed decisions, also announced some conditions.

“All Vendors, boat transporters and vehicles among others must arrive at the Moonyoa Market on Thursdays after 4:00pm. Anyone who fails to comply with this condition will be given a spot fine of GHC3, 000.00 or they risk losing all their goods brought to the Market.”

“Any person or group of persons who aid or abet vendors and fishmongers to violate the condition, will be given a collective spot fine of GHC5, 000.00”, Nnaa Lanjagor Karley II indicated.

The Paramount Chief also encouraged stakeholders to form a vigilante group to be selected among the stakeholder groupings to constitute a market committee to monitor the market programme.

To ensure the message is received ahead of the implementation of the new market days, Nnaa Lanjagor Karley II asked the committee to allow enough time for information on the new market days to trickle down to all the relevant stakeholders.

Thus, the proposed new market days are to commence on November 30th, 2023 at Jama Moonyoa Market.
