REVEALED: CAF rejected Tamale Sports Stadium [Asempa FM]
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) rejected Ghana’s proposal to use the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale to host qualifiers, according to the Ghana FA’s Club Licensing Manager Julius Emunah on Asempa FM.
CAF’s Club Licensing Officer arrived in the country last week to inspect the Cape Coast Sports Stadium and the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi for approval for the all-important game scheduled for March 25, 2022.
Following the inspection, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium has been granted a one-match approval to host the game.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that the Ghana FA proposed the Tamale facility to host qualifiers but, the continent’s football regulatory body rejected the venue.
“Tamale was proposed but it was rejected by CAF for the game because the facility doesn’t meet the required standards,” Emunah told Benedict Kwadwo Mensah on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.
The Tamale Sports Stadium is a multipurpose stadium in Tamale, Ghana, mostly used for football matches as well as a place for hosting events and serves as the home stadium of Real Tamale United, Tamale City FC, and Steadfast FC.
The stadium hosted some matches during the 2008 African Cup of Nations has a capacity of about 20,000 and it was completed in 2008 by the Shanghai Construction Group of China.
