2023 AFCON: This is why Bristol City’s Antoine Semenyo was dropped from Ghana’s squad to face the Central African Republic

Bristol City attacker Antoine Semenyo has been dropped from the Ghana squad for the 2023 AFCON qualifier against the Central African Republic and the Four-Nation Tournament in Japan.

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo dropped 9 players from his initial 33-man squad as the Ghana team jetted off to Angola for the 2023 AFCON qualifier on Friday evening.

Semenyo, 22, marked his Ghana debut on Wednesday when he replaced AS Roma starlet Felix Afena-Gyan at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium as the Black Stars secured a resounding 3-0 win over minnows Madagascar.

However, he has been left out of the final squad for the games against CAR and the tournament in Japan.

Though the Ghana FA didn’t officially state the reasons for his omission from the squad, multiple media reports claim the attacker suffered a knock during the 15 minutes he lasted against Madagascar’s Barea.
