Russia-Ukraine Crisis: FIA cancels Russian GP

The Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) haS called off this year’s Russian GP, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In the early hours of February 24, Russian forces invaded Ukraine from it’s Southern, Northern and Eastern borders forcing many citizens to flee to neighboring Poland.

As a result, the FIA have decided to call of this year’s Russian GP indicating ‘it is impossible to hold the Russian Grand Prix in the current circumstances’. The FIA made the announcement via Formula 1’s official Twitter page.

The Russian GP was scheduled to be hosted by Sochi on September 25.

The 2023 UCL final which was earlier planned to be hosted by St. Petersburg, has been moved by UEFA due to Russia’s Ukraine invasion.
