Social media reacts to sanction against Chelsea’s Abramovich
Some social media users have expressed dissatisfaction with sanctions against Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich over the ongoing Russian-Ukraine invasion.
On Thursday morning, it was reported that Chelsea and other assets belonging to the Russian have been seized.
It has been alleged that Mr Abramovich, who has an estimated net worth of £9.4bn has strong ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Abramovich has denied these claims, however, he has been sanctioned by the UK government.
In response, some users claim that this is a calculated attack against Chelsea as a club and not just Abramovich.
This does not feel like an attack just on Roman Abramovich.

Surely the UK government could’ve held off sanctions until Roman Abramovich secured the sale of the club?
Had this been Liverpool or Manchester United we know the situation would’ve been handled completely differently.
The agenda against Chelsea is so obvious & only continues.

Now that Roman Abramovich has had his assets frozen & can’t sell Chelsea & now that Chelsea can’t sell any tickets (not defending him) we have to ask why Saudi Arabis is allowed to own Newcastle then? The war in Yemen is one of the worst humanitarian disaster in the world. pic.twitter.com/m2akz0Tc4Y

Mr Abramovich had initially put up Chelsea for sale but there won’t be any transfer of the club ownership until further notice.
True colours shown by those now dancing on the grave of Chelsea Football Club as the bent, corrupt, reprehensible government hang a question mark over the jobs of thousands.
It’s not just Roman Abramovich losing here. The collateral damage is unfair and unjustified.

This Britsih Government is having a war against Roman Abramovich of Chelsea at Standford Bridge than the Russian war Against Ukraine .

This is nothing but a direct attack on Chelsea FC. This isn’t about Roman Abramovich anymore.

Throwback to the Covid era when Roman Abramovich paid for NHS staff to sleep in Chelsea hotel with DIRTY Russian money and everyone cheered.
I’m guessing the money wasn’t as dirty then? pic.twitter.com/8fiBwvJo90

The list of Russians penalised also includes billionaires Igor Sechin and Oleg Deripaska, both seen as allies of Vladimir Putin.
Meanwhile, a section of the users believes the UK government is in the right and must be commended.
Well done finally on sanctioning Roman Abramovich and freezing his assets. Now let’s move on other Putin oligarchs as fast as possible so they can’t squirrel their assets out of reach.
