Ghana football is going backwards in some areas – Fred Pappoe on Asempa FM’s SportsNite
Former Ghana FA Vice President Fred Pappoe has passed some worrying verdicts about the state of Ghana football.
The soft-spoken administrator suggested to Enoch Worlanyo on the SportsNite show on Accra-based Asempa FM that the gains made in Ghana football in recent years peel into insignificance compared to the various negatives.
Recently, Ghana has failed shambolically at three major competitions – the 2022 AFCON tournament, the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and the 2023 CHAN tournament in Algeria where the Black Stars and the Black Galaxies atrociously exited the competitions.
Reacting to issues bothering Ghana football, the Senior Policy Advisor at the Norway Embassy rated the development of the industry.
“It is moving forward but there is still a long way to go. There are still some small steps we are gaining going forward. That would be the best way to describe it. In some areas, we are moving fast while we are moving a bit slowly in other areas. There are also other areas that I think we are going backward,” he told Enoch Worlanyo on the SportsNite show on Accra-based Asempa FM.
If you aggregate all of the facets you can say that there are small steps forward but with still a lot to do,” he added.
If you pick something at attendance at our league matches you can see that we are going down. It wasn’t good previously but now I believe it is getting worse by the day across almost all centers,” he further stated.
He also touched on the state of officiating in Ghana football.
“I always keep asking myself whether the officials we had before the Anas period were better or worse than the ones we have now. Seriously, I still think officiating remains a problem,” he stated.
