Students of JACCD Design Institute Africa wow audience at graduation fashion show
Graduates from JACCD Design Institute Africa, formerly Joyce Ababio College of Creative Design showcased splendid designs on the runway at the school’s North Legon premises as part of their 27th graduation ceremony.
The event which took place on Saturday, December 17, 2022 saw original outfits designed by more than 30 students and a collection of innovative designs of both womenswear and menswear being presented on the runway underscored why JACCD has been among the best creative design institute in Ghana offering top-notch education in the creative profession.
Beautiful gowns, oversized coats and vibrant prints were among the eclectic mix of garments on display. Each team of models and designers had a distinct theme to their outfits, with almost all groups wearing dresses made of African fabrics and another flaunting clothes more suited to international appeals.
One venue of the auditorium was attended by family, friends, members of the public and industry experts including David-Kusi Boye Doe and Ronald Kizito, both renowned fashion designers and alumni of the school.
120 students in all received certificates of graduation, including graphic designers and fashion students. Out of the 120 graduates, Sheena Edem, Diallo Binta, and Dennis Williams were recognized as the top three overall best students.
“Our mission as a college is not just to be the leader in creative education in Africa, but also to re-orient thoughts regarding professions in the creative business,” said the President of the institute, Madam Joyce Ababio. “With what our students presented today, we made another progress toward this goal”, she added.
Justifying the rationale for the emphasis on entrepreneurship, she said: “To sew is one thing but one needs to understand the business aspect of it. People must realise that while talent can get you far, the application of proper business principles or concepts will determine many of those who succeed in the field and, regrettably, those who fail.”
The showcase gave a great sense of why JACCD remains the gold-standard for creative schools in the country and has been the first in many regards.
