This is what Wakaso Mubarak believes is the reason why Ghanaians are criticising the Black Stars [Asempa FM]

Black Stars midfielder Wakaso Mubarak believes ending Ghana’s 40-year trophy drought is the only way to get Ghanaians to stop criticising the senior national team.

Players, technical team members and the Ghanaian football hierarchy have come under intense criticism from the Ghanaian football publics following the Black Stars’ lacklustre showing against Ethiopia and South Africa in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Fans have descended heavily on the players as well as head coach Charles Akonnor with a majority of home fans calling for the head of the former Ghana international winger. A section of the angry fans have also called for the exclusion of some senior players from the squad with the Shenzhen F.C midfield talisman and the Ayew brothers becoming prime targets.

Meanwhile Wakaso, who scored the match-winner for the four-time African champions against Ethiopia last Friday at the Cape Coast Stadium, seems to have the answer to why fans are constantly criticising the Black Stars.

“The reason why all these criticism is taking place is because the team hasn’t been able to win a trophy for the nation. I’m very sure that if we are able to win the trophy for the nation the fans will not criticise us regardless of the amount we ask for. This is the reason why the fans have taken advantage to always complain about the money that comes to the team whenever we play,” he told Enoch Worlanyo [Professor Wallace] during an interview.

Wakaso has scored 13 times in 65 appearances for the West African powerhouse who will be seeking to end their trophy hunt in January at the 2021 AFCON tournament in Cameroon.
