TV signals will be cut if broadcasters do not pay for use – Communications Minister
The Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, is warning that television signals to homes and offices will be cut from next year.
She states that this action is a result of broadcasters refusing to pay for their use of the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) platform.
According to the Minister, the government, which has been covering the cost of operating the platform, can no longer bear the expense.
Speaking in Parliament, the legislator insisted that some media houses are refusing to pay despite receiving several notices.
“…Government says it cannot continue to pay for it. So if they do not pay for it, unfortunately, we may find ourselves in the situation where we cannot receive TV broadcast signals because the platform will be shut down,” she said on Monday, December 11.
The Minister also responded to claims the government has sold its stake in telecommunications company, Vodafone.
According to her, Vodafone had only transferred its share to Telesel and consent is not required from Ghana Telecom which has 30% share.
