Check what this Ghana FA Executive Council member said about Augustine Okrah’s Black Stars call-up rejection blow-up

Ghana FA Executive Council member Kingsley Osei Bonsu, popularly known as Lord Zico, has given details about how Augustine Okrah’s decision to reject a Black Stars call-up from Otto Addo.

The Bechem United winger rejected a late invitation handed him to join the team ahead of the Kirin Cup in Japan.

According to Ghana Sports Online checks with people close to the player, the 28-year-old winger declined the call up for lack of playing time with the team and as such doesn’t see the need to travel with the squad.

However, Ghana FA Executive Council member Osei Bonsu has revealed what exactly transpired when he informed the player of his call-up.

“He didn’t give any tangible reason why he can’t honor the Black Stars invitation. I had a call from the FA to communicate to him to report to camp, I informed him (Okrah) after our match against Aduana to report. I went to his place and realized that he was still around, I asked and all he said was there is no way he going to honour the invitation. He is the best person to explain why he failed to honor the invitation,” he told Kumasi-based Akoma FM.

Okrah along with Hearts of Oak’s Daniel Afriyie Barnieh were left in the spectator’s stands to watch Ghana’s 3-0 mauling of Madagascar in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers last Wednesday.

Our checks further revealed that the call-up was extended to him through a Ghana FA Executive Council member on Sunday.

However, the former Asante Kotoko playmaker failed to move to Accra to join the rest of the contingent who left the shores of the country for the East Asian nation.

Ghana men’s senior national will take on Japan in the opening games of the tournament while Chile will play Tunisia in the other game.
