Black Stars: Replay shows Percy Tau’s disallowed goal against Ghana wasn’t offside

Replays have revealed Percy Tau’s goal which was disallowed for offside against the Black Stars should have stood.

The Al Ahly forward headed a Bongokuhle Hlongwane on the 37th minute into Richard Ofori’s net but Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe whistled for offside after his assistant referee had flagged the Bafana Bafana forward.

However replays have shown Tau was in a legitimate position before Bongokuhle delivered the cross and his goal should have stood.

In a 3v6 situation in the Ghana area Tau still managed to ghost past defender Djiku and planted a firm header into the Ghana goal but the goal was disallowed much to the relief of the Ghanaian.

Meanwhile South Africa eventually grabbed the winning goal in the 84th minute when Bongokuhle connected a scrappy low ball into the net as the Bafana Bafana recorded a 1-0 win to leapfrog Ghana in Group G.

The victory has taken pressure off South Africa coach Hugo Broos who had come under intense criticism from the South African public.
