2021 AFCON: 387 cards in 101 games – Check out the record of the Algerian referee in charge of the Ghana vs Gabon clash

Lahlou Benbraham, the Algerian referee who has been appointed to officiate the 2021 AFCON Group C clash between Gabon and Ghana, is noted for flashing out cards to players.

The 36-year-old Béjaia-based has been in charge of 101 games since acquiring his referee batch in the 2013/2014 season.

He has earned 52 appointments since acquiring his FIFA batch as a center referee.

In total, the referee has shown 371 yellow cards and 16 red cards. When he was in charge of those two Ghana games at the 2019 U23 AFCON, he showed 9 yellow cards – 5 cards to Ghana and 4 to the opponents. Ghana Sports Online

He has handled Ghana games twice, all coming in the 2019 CAF U23 AFCON tournament in Egypt.

Benbraham acquired his FIFA batch in 2017 and has been officiating in the CAF Champions League for the past two seasons (2019/20 and 2020/21). He also officiated at the 2019 U23 AFCON tournament in Egypt.

Ghana suffered a 1-0 loss to Morocco in the opening game of the tournament in Yaounde but, are fired up to go for victory against Gabon on Friday evening.
