2021 AFCON: Algerian referee Lahlou Benbraham has officiated two Ghana games in the past. Check out which games they were

Lahlou Benbraham, the Algerian referee who has been appointed to officiate the 2021 AFCON Group C clash between Gabon and Ghana, has officiated Ghana games twice.

CAF has appointed the 36-year-old Béjaia-based to officiate the Black Stars’ second group game in Yaounde on Friday evening.

Since acquiring his FIFA batch in 2017, the Algerian has been officiating in the CAF Champions League for the past two seasons (2019/20 and 2020/21). He also officiated at the 2019 U23 AFCON tournament in Egypt.

He was in charge of Ghana’s two games at the U23 AFCON in Egypt in 2019. On November 8, 2019, he was a center referee for the Ghana vs Cameroon game which ended 1-1 at the Cairo International Sports Stadium.

Eleven days later, he was in charge of the Ghana vs Ivory Coast which ended 3-2 in favour of the Ivory Coast.

Ghana suffered a 1-0 loss to Morocco in the opening game of the tournament in Yaounde but, are fired up to go for victory against Gabon on Friday evening.
