2021 AFCON: Which goalkeeper should start for Ghana against Gabon? Wollacott or Richard Attah?

Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac won’t have a difficult task selecting which of his four goalkeepers starts in post for the Black Stars in the 2021 AFCON Group C game against Gabon on Friday evening.

Wollacott, who plays for English fourth-tier side Swindon Town, made an impressive save in the game against Morocco on Monday afternoon in Yaounde.

The four goalkeepers available include Hearts of Oak shot-stopper Richard Attah, regular starter Joseph Wollacott, Abdul Manaf Nurudeen, and Lawrence Ati-Zigi.

Serbian trainer Milovan Rajevac won’t have a headache in terms of choosing who starts in between the sticks for the Black Stars.

Both Manaf Nurudeen and Lawrence Ati-Zigi failed to impress in the 3-0 loss to Algeria last week in the pre-tournament friendly match.

It is obvious that Milovan won’t start Manaf or Ati-Zigi in posts while Attah has never featured for the Black Stars despite receiving several call-ups.

Swindon Town goalkeeper Joseph Wollacott has beaten all three goalkeepers to claim the starting berths in all the games that he has played for the Black Stars during the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and did so in the opening group game which he made an impressive stop to deny the North Africans a second goal.
