2022 FIFA World Cup: Otto Addo settles on this former Villarreal midfielder as option for injury-prone Thomas Partey

Ghana coach Otto Addo has already had a Plan B for injury-prone Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey as the Black Stars go into the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Partey has suffered two different injuries this season and missed out on the Black Stars’ 3-0 loss to Brazil in a FIFA international friendly in late September.

The 29-year-old pulled out of the game at the Stade Oceane in Le Havre due to an injury he suffered during warm-up.

The former Atletico de Madrid midfielder hasn’t played for the Black Stars since scoring the all-important goal against Nigeria at the Moshood Abiola Sports Stadium in March to secure Ghana’s ticket to the Mundial.

Due to this, Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has been busy trying to settle on a Plan B for his midfield.

During Partey’s absence, he has tried a number of options in central midfield by playing Real Mallorca midfielder Baba Iddrisu Mohammed and Daniel-Kofi Kyereh or sometimes opting to deploy Iddrisu in a single pivot role.

In his latest move, Addo has settled on KAS Eupen midfielder Wakaso Mubarak to be in his final squad for the tournament.

The former Ghana international has been impressed with the commitment and work ethic of the 32-year-old former Villarreal midfielder.

Wakaso has started four (4) of KAS Eupen’s last five (5) games in the Belgian Pro League this season and his return to form has delighted Addo who saw him play against Japan and Chile during the Kirin Cup in June.
