AFC Futsal Asian Cup: Thailand annihilate ‘whipping boys’ Oman in a goal-frenzy duel

Thailand outclassed Oman in their Group A clash at the 2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup clash at the Saad Al Abdullah Hall with a comprehensive 6-1 drubbing.

The result means Thailand have booked their ticket to the quarter-final but must wait to find out their opponents as the clash between hosts Kuwait and Oman will play a significant role.

Sarawut Phalaphruek fired a powerful low rocket effort that failed through the legs of Hisham Abdullah Al Wahaibi in the goalpost of Oman.

Midfielder Krit Aransanyalak watched his well-taken effort graze off the woodwork with the goalkeeper beaten once more.

Oman’s porous defence had seen them ship 12 goals in 2 games heading into the game and it became evident as they struggled in the early stages against fleeting nimble-footed players on the Thai side.

The woodwork saved Oman once again as Worasak Srirangpirot cracked a furious shot that cannoned off the upright.

However, the Oman defence produced a spirit of resilience to withstand a series of onslaughts from Thailand with three different players coming close to scoring.

Meanwhile, Thailand would not stop pelting them with their peddles of ammunitions from powerful strikes and the 16th minute produced the second goal of the game when 33-year-old forward Jetsada Chudech hammered a mallet effort into the net.

That goal opened the gate for more and Worasak Srirangpirot dully registered his name on the score-sheet with a great drive which impressed all and sundry.

Sarawut Phalaphruek profited from a goalkeeper howler to tuck away a loose ball and register his second goal of the game as Thais coasted to an easy first half.

After the interval, Oman reclined to going forward and that turned out to be an invitation to treat the venomous attacking Thai legions. The ‘Small Tables’ kept bombarding their opponents with a series of offensive orchestrations which even saw goalkeeper Katawut Hankampa test his shooting accuracy with an admirable drive from distance which was missed narrowly due to deflection.

Another goal will not arrive until the 8th minute when the returning Sarawut Phalaphruek put the ball away once again to complete his hat-trick of the evening.

Defender Mohammed Ahmed Al-Lawati traversed his zone in a quick-counter pressing play to score a consolation goal for Oman with 6 minutes left on the clock.

Narongsak Wingwon was at the right place at the right time to connect home an incisive low cross.

Thailand’s substitute goalkeeper Panurat Olan had to be at his best to deny Oman another consolation – even though his effort was a frantic pyrrhic one as the signal went for the end of the game before he landed from the midair challenge.
