Black Stars: Ghana lose key midfielder for 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying double-header

Ghana’s Black Stars will be without the services of key midfielder Kudus Mohammed for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying double-header against South Africa and Ethiopia.

The 21-year-old has failed to recover in time for the games in Cape Coast against Ethiopia and South Africa in Johannesburg. Latest reports from the Netherlands claim the former Nordsjaelland star will need about 3 weeks to recover.

Kudus has not kicked a ball for Ajax in the Eredivisie this season due to an injury he suffered during pre-season.

He becomes the fifth player to drop out of Charles Akonnor’s squad after Arsenal’s Thomas Partey, Daniel Amartey, Tariq Fosu and Jordan Ayew all dropped out of the provisional 30-man squad due to COVID-19 restrictions in the United Kingdom.

With the latest withdrawal from the squad Akonnor has handed a late call up to Poland-based midfielder Yaw Yeboah who scored a headline grabbing goal last weekend for Wisla Krakow.
