CAF Champions League: This is what will happen if Hearts draw with Kamsar within regulatory time in Accra on Sunday
The Confederation of African Football [CAF] have communicated to Hearts of Oak through the Ghana Football Association that the September 10 first-leg tie between Hearts and CI Kamsar has been cancelled due to the political unrest in the country.
The continent’s football governing body cited Article 1 and 2.1, chapter XIII in taking the action to move the game to the Accra Sports Stadium on September 19 in a one-off duel between the Ghanaian double winners and the Guinea Championnat National side.
Hearts were preparing to travel to Guinea’s capital Conakry on September 10 for the first-leg showdown two days later but a military coup on Sunday that over overthrew President Alpha Conde left the tie in danger.
With the game now set to be decided on a one-off fixture to determine which of the two clubs progresses to the next round of the competition, CAF have decided on the mechanism to separate the two sides in case the game ends in a draw after regulatory time.
CAF have communicated there will be no extra time after the end of the 90 minutes plus added time.
The two sides shall head straight to the penalty shootouts to determine who wins the tie.
It is worth noting that Hearts of Oak annexed the Ghanaian FA Cup trophy after beating AshantiGold 8-7 on penalty shootouts at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Samuel Boadu’s side have won 2 of their 3 warm-up friendly matches including a 2-0 win over Tema Youth last week.
