CAF Confederation Cup: This Hearts of Oak star is not making the trip to Algeria to face J.S. Saoura [GTV Sports+ The File]

Hearts of Oak will travel to Algeria for the return leg of their CAF Confederation Cup play-off against J.S. Saoura without experienced midfielder Gladson Awako, Hearts of Oak’s National Chapters Committee PRO Kwabena Asante Nfodwo Jones has revealed.

Awako, who turns 31 next month, watched from the stands as Samuel Boadu’s Phobians defeated the Méridja-based club 2-0 thanks to goals from Salifu Ibrahim and substitute Isaac Agyenim Boateng.

The Phobians must avoid any loss within the margin of 3 goals to seal progress to the group stages of the competition. At this stage, the Ghanaian champions require experienced players on the field during the weekend to secure their place in the last 8.

According to Nfodwo Jones on GTV Sports+’s show hosted by Kwame Dwommoh-Agyemang, Awako will not travel with the team.

“We found out at the end of the game whether Awako is available for the second leg or not and the information is that the documentation has been done without him which means he is not traveling with the team,” he said.

Awako, a former TP Mazembe player, is the most decorated player on the Ghanaian domestic scene, having won the CAF Champions League, Confederation Cup, and the Super Cup as well as the Congolese Ligue 1 title.
